Company Information

In April 1932, the Ohio nonprofit corporations, Lakeside Hospital, Maternity Hospital of Cleveland, Babies and Childrens Hospital of Cleveland, and The University Hospitals of Cleveland ( now consolidated as University Hospitals of Cleveland), and the Western Reserve University, (now Case Western Reserve University), organized The Medical Center Company as a not for profit Ohio corporation. Its purpose is to maintain and operate a power house,service building, distribution network and all the related equipment that is necessary in order to provide utility services to our member institutions. These services included steam, electrical power,compressed air, vacuum, and hot soft water. Recently, The Medical Center has also added Chilled Water as an additional service to its members.

At the Medical Centers inception the only users of the provided services were the original incorporators. At the present time the following institutions are corporate members: University Hospitals of Cleveland, Case Western Reserve University, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Church of The Covenant,The Musical Arts Association, The Cleveland Botanical Garden, The Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center, The Cleveland Medical Library Association, and The Cleveland Institute of Art.

All of the corporate members are located in the area designated as University Circle in Cleveland, Ohio. All members are organized and operated exclusively for educational, charitable or religious purposes and as such are tax exempt institutions.
