The Chilled Water System of the Medical Center Company
In 1996, a chilled water plant and distribution system was added in order to meet the cooling needs of MCCo members in a more efficient and cost-effective manner. In 2003, a satellite chilled water plant was constructed a quarter of a mile from the main MCCo facility. The combined capacity of both plants was 17,600 tons of cooling per hour.
In 2011, MCCo completed construction of a new chilled water facility adjacent to the existing satellite plant. This facility will provide an additional 10,000 tons per hour of cooling capacity to meet the needs of University Hospital's new Seidman Cancer Center and Emergency Department as well as future Case Western Reserve University expansion.
